HOW TO EDIT JERSEYS IN FIFA 99 ------------------------------ *USE WORDWRAP TO READ THIS CORRECTLY IN NOTEPAD* Have you tried to make new jersey designs for FIFA 99, and when you try to use that jersey in the game, the game crashes with an error such as 'Device Error'? Well reading this will help you create new jerseys without any errors! First of all, editing jerseys with FSH (or any other editor) will not work because EA Sports have (very cunningly) stopped people from editing jerseys, and so the game would crash if you tried to. However, if you have GFXVIEW and GFXPAK, you can make jerseys and when you use them in FIFA 99, it doesn't crash!! Firstly, you must get GFXVIEW and GFXPAK. Which is available at www.gameshock.com/nhl/ and many other sites. It is also available on the PC ZONE coverdisk issue 68 (in the UK), in the Extended Play\FIFA 98 section. Place the two applications into your FIFA 99 directory. Making jerseys is long winded than before, but persevere and you'll get results! 1) Using GFXVIEW, find the jersey file you want to edit (Pk0**.fsh for the player jerseys, Gk**.fsh for the goalkeeper jerseys and Rk0*.fsh for the referee jersey) and press 'S' on each sub-file (e.g. hjfr) This saves each sub-file as a .PNG file. Doing this will save the palette and already has the picture size defined (e.g. hjfr has size 128x128). 2) Using any paint program that can open .PNG (such as Paint Shop Pro), create your new jersey designs over the old ones then save over them. Reference: HJBK : Large Jersey (Back) 64x64 HJFR : Large Jersey (Front) 128x128 HRSV : Large Sleeve (Player) 64x48 HSLV : Large Sleeve (Goalkeeper) 64x64 LJER : Small Jersey 44x28 LLAR : Small Sleeve (Lower Arm) 10x24 LUAR : Small Sleeve 10x24 MJBK : Medium Jersey (Back) 32x32 MJFR : Medium Jersey (Front) 64x64 MRSV : Medium Sleeve (Player) 32x24 MSLV : Medium Sleeve (Goalkeeper) 32x32 3) Using GFXPAK, type the folder of which GFXPAK is in (in DOS prompt) then type the following: gfxpak -cp c:\folder\file.fsh newfile.fsh picture.png SHPI-subfile where: c:\folder\file.fsh is the path of the file you want to edit. newfile.fsh is the new file GFXPAK will create (can be the same name as file.fsh [original filename] above - this will just overwrite) picture.png(.pcx) is the png or pcx picture file that you have just edited SHPI-subfile is the original subfile name. Example "gfxpak -cp c:\fifa99\gk01.fsh gk11.fsh hjfr.png hjfr" will create a new file Gk11.fsh, which is the same as Gk01.fsh, but would have replaced hjfr with your new design. You can replace several files at once (e.g. hjfr.png hjfr hjbk.png hjbk) but DOS can only allow so much input, so it's best to do it in stages. 4) Now move your new file into the players\textures folder of your FIFA 99 directory, and rename the file to one used in the game (e.g. Gk11.fsh to Gk01.fsh) 5) Start FIFA 99 and play a game with a team allocated to your new kit. It should load without crashing into Windows, and use your new design! Other queries are as to why some kits that are striped, hooped etc. don't clash with the secondary as well as the tertiary colours. It's because those kits don't correspond to the files that use secondary clash (if you know what I'm getting at!), which is a big blunder by EA. Go to FIFA 99 Online at www.fifa99.net/downloads then Patches to find my Jersey Fix patch (it's credited to my dad, but I did it!). I will soon update this with some new jersey designs that I am making at the moment. I hope this text file will help you make kits, and have fun!
